Explore the Blue City Morocco and Fez’s Ancient Wonders
Your travel will start in Fez, one of the outstandingly old and important cities in Morocco, known as the spiritual and cultural capital of the country. In Fez, stands the world’s oldest university and one of the most preserved medieval cities in the world. As you weave your way through the serpentine streets of the medina, you become lost back in time among its great structures, moving souks, and the lively energy that defines this medieval city. Some of the key sites and landmarks in this city are the Bou Inania Medersa, a brilliant example of Moroccan architecture; the jaw-dropping Nejjarine Fountain; and the grand Karaouine Mosque, displaying the rich Islamic Heritage sustained by this city.
The medina of Fez is not something to be seen but to which one must learn the experience. Here, one can hear sounds of artisanship and smell spices in the air. All the unique feelings that one can get in Fez: all the created goods, the shops that sell them, and an optional lunch in the heart of the medina at a local restaurant allow one to continue feeling traditional Moroccan cuisine while exploring it.
From Fez, the road ascends northwards to the gem of the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen, affectionately tagged the Blue City Morocco. It is an enchanting panorama of a small town, with some dazzling blue-washed buildings that give it an out-of-this-world atmosphere—something that has always taken visitors by storm. The blue hues of the medina of Chefchaouen are eye-catching enough to make other places very suitable for relaxing and breathing in serenity. Winding through its narrow streets, further exploration reveals the blending between Andalusian and Moroccan architecture in whitewashed houses splashed with lapis lazuli doors, ironwork windows, and traditional tile roofs.
Chefchaouen is not just a feast for the eyes but also a window to the beauty of the Rif Mountains. The surrounding area, therefore, is nondescript, with activities from mountain hiking to only hanging around and having a panoramic look at the town from above. These bazaars offer a more unique shopping experience where it is possible to pick up some special souvenirs that represent the spirit of Blue City Morocco exhaled by the handicrafts, textiles, and spices found on the excursioner’s displays.
From here, journey on to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities. The grand past of this city is on display in the fabulous gates, imperial palaces, and grand mosques. Meknes used to be the capital of Morocco under Sultan Moulay Ismail, often overshadowed city by its more famous neighbors, but this is a tightly packed hidden gem. The guided city tour takes you through this vibrant city to the most stunning places, including the Bab Mansour gate, Royal Stables, and the ancient medina.
The sacred city of Moulay Driss and the peaceful town of Ouazzane are further visited after Meknes. These visits pursue the spiritual face of Morocco, where very worthy sights of religious significance can be observed alongside the peaceful ambiance of these seldom-visited towns.
Next, the tour will head to Rabat, which is the administrative capital city of Morocco. Here, you’ll check out some of the city’s historic sites like the Royal Palace, the Oudaya Garden and Kasbah, and the Hassan Tower Mosque. Rabat is a unique contrast to historical and modern architecture in the city and is considerably different from the traditional cities of Fez and Chefchaouen, which represent Blue City Morocco’s cultural diversity.
Finally, your journey finishes at Casablanca, the economic heart and the most important city in Morocco. This bustling metropolis is home to the famous Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest and most breathtaking mosques in the world, with a towering minaret. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is the city’s modern architecture, full of energy befitting the adventure you have been through in Blue City Morocco.
During the 5-Day Blue City Morocco tour, you’re going to appreciate not just the sights and sounds of Morocco’s most iconic towns but also the tastes of its diverse cuisine. In this tour, the foods range from traditional tagines in Fez to fresh seafood in Casablanca. All the foods available are phenomenal, to the point where some reports suggest the foods are just as unforgettable as the sights. Optional activities, like a traditional dinner within the medina or exploring the souks, lead to fuller cultural immersion.
