Ajloun is a city in northern Jordan, known for its historic Ajloun Castle, also called Qala’at Ar-Rabad. The castle was constructed in the 12th century during the reign of the great Ayyubid ruler Salah ad-Din to repel Crusader invasions. Its location, sitting atop a hill overlooking the countryside and all its approaches, has made examples of Islamic military architecture second to none. Ajloun is a region rich in natural beauty, surrounded by forests and nature reserves, especially suitable for hiking and other outdoor activities.
