Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon, is a great protected desert wilderness in the south of Jordan. Admired for its tuya sandstone mountains, deep ravines, and huge red dunes, it can easily compete with the greatness of the Middle Eastern deserts. Its landscape is sculpted by millennia of geological activities, resulting in dramatic natural formations that include from the Seven Pillars of Wisdom to the Burdah Rock Bridge. Wadi Rum was an integral area for such settlements, including the Nabataeans and Thamudic tribes. At present, this site is widely recognized and draws plenty of adventure tourists, who trek, take camel rides, and indulge in jeep safaris. It was also featured in the film “Lawrence of Arabia.”
